Title: Minister for Valenciennes
Jean Michel Leclerc - April 24, 2008 10:53 AM (GMT)
Julien,
Do you think that you can try and breathe some life into the Imperial Parliament? It seems that they are a little stuck over whether or not to get the session going.
I think I speak on behalf of most Valencienners when I say that I think the ball needs to be set in motion, otherwise it could be another week before legislating begins.
Many thanks,
Jean Michel Leclerc - April 28, 2008 08:30 AM (GMT)
I have noted your efforts:
http://alexandriaforums.com/index.php?showtopic=4540Shame that your attempts to represent your constituents' voices was met so negatively. It would have been nice to hear someone say "It's a shame we're having to wait. We'll have to make sure that we're super-efficient when that organising resolution is passed".

The "do-nothing" Conservative Parliament strikes again for the second time in the last four sittings ;)
Julien Rosseau - April 28, 2008 08:25 PM (GMT)
Yeah which is why you should vote LA

Aren't you just the same? Good enough to be in coalition anyhow! :P
Jean Michel Leclerc - April 29, 2008 10:01 AM (GMT)
Well I think that the ACP-LA coalition may become untenable at this rate. With the LA wanting action, on behalf of their constituents, and then some ACP members wishing for action, whilst others aren't bothered, how long can the impasse continue?
John_Carmichael - April 29, 2008 12:46 PM (GMT)
As long as politically necessary for one or the other to remain in power. Call me cynical mind.
By the way, Jean Michel, is there going to a French sector conference?
Pete James - April 29, 2008 02:14 PM (GMT)
One party/ one coalition parliaments will always be less active as there is no opposition to keep the government busy

There will be. I suppose I was going to organise it when I was First Minister, but I think it could fall in my mandate on the Executive. I think the original estimate was May, but June will give me chance to organise it nicely.
Oh, and this from Mssr. Poiter's made me laugh:
http://alexandriaforums.com/index.php?show...4540&st=0last. He says "how about a recess until after the election?" Gentlemen, I ask, has the parliament not had enough of a recess this term already! LOL!

And now my children, you can perhaps begin to comprehend fully why it has been years since I have been a Monarchist or a Conservative in Alexandrian politics.

what people don't comprehend either is because you have demonstrated a bitterness towards anything royal because you yourself were booted ungracefully from the Imperial family and any efforts you have made to get back into the Imperial family have been met with big NOs.

It's not that we didn't want any action, we were all dying for legislative action. We just can't pass an organizing resolution if we do not have a minority leader. It just so happened that the minority leader's election just ended in Ibelin. It's easy to blame the Conservatives for everything, isn't it?

I don't think that I blamed the Conservatives for anything. I think that, given the circumstances, you may have contacted the Emperor and thought of a pragmatic solution that meant that Parliament didn't sit idle for over two weeks! You're an experienced enough Parliamentarian to have been able to think of and push for a positive solution to the situation, as opposed to the negative path that was opted for collectively.

I was a Prince two years ago. So yes, I was once a member of the Imperial House. Then again, so was the transvestite Josephine, who continues to rear her head here. The Royal Family legacy is not something I will ever be proud of. I might also note that I revoked my own Alexandrian citizenship over a misunderstanding about the tenure of a Dukedom. I was booted from nowhere, monsieur Frias. I left.
Me thinks it might be wise for you to keep quiet about things you don't fully understand - as usual.

interesting, you are ashamed of a legacy you have tried several times to rejoin after you "left"? please. i was around when you contacted the emperor again to try to get your way into the Imperial family. the emperor discussed it with me as well as the dauphin at the time. that's how i know your history.
Also, if you are ashamed of the legacy of the imperial family, why do you stick around? i happen to think the emperor has led Alexandria well and beyond the usual expiration date of micronations which is more than can be said about you. pray, what happened to Venise, sebastien?

And what were we supposed to do? Pass legislation without Ibelin or Baudrix having a say? Would you prefer haste or actual democracy?

I have not expressed interest in rejoining the Royal House in some time, Jose. In fact I would put it at well over a year ago. I came back because I love (most) of the atmosphere of the micronation and I enjoy (most) of the people who participate here. Jose, had you done anything for this nation of which another could not do as well or better, and had you ever removed yourself from the shadows of the Royal Family and gotten off the Conservative lap, I might lower myself to a duel of words with you. My discussions with you end here. If you wish to boost your ego, try it somewhere besides the Liberal stronghold of Alexandria.

Just starting to debate legislation would have been enough to satisfy me that Parliament wasn't just gathering cyberdust.

The Constitution says we can't do anything else until we elect a Speaker first, and the way that is done is through an Organizing Resolution.

I've done a lot for this nation, more than you could say. You've been inactive in and out doing nothing. the one time someone extends a grace to you and creates a whole new territory for you to govern as king, or doge, you leave and don't come back. what is that? at least i've stuck around here, trying to make a difference, trying to do something productive. you've done nothing until now.
THIS IS A MONARCHY. i am glad to serve the Imperial Family in any capacity I can. I am glad to serve the people of Rio Grande as well. if you want a republic, go somewhere else... and i will express myself in Valenciennes and everywhere else, i am not afraid to do so, i will not be silenced or bullied by you.
Sebastien Alexandre - May 12, 2008 01:50 AM (GMT)
Silenced, no. Bullied, of course not.
Ignored beyond recognition, but of course.
I bid you farewell, monsieur.
Now, does anyone have a question for the First Minister of Valenciennes in the First Minister for Valenciennes thread? I am still (eagerly) awaiting the reports from the Provincial Government that were promised to be delivered in May, so that hopefully we can act on some things before June elections roll around.
