Sole CountNicholas Bertrand, Defendant, is by this Indictment accused of committing the crime of defamation, to wit: violation of Article 21 of the Imperial Criminal Code, committed as follows: On March 27 of this year, the Defendant made an untrue statement to ridicule and hold persons of Monsieur John Carmichael, Monsieur Freddy Francois and Lord LeClerc in contempt, lower their estimations as men of principle in the community and cause undue and unwarranted damage to their reputation.
