A spokesman for the Prime Minister released a statement from Prime Minister Ciervo.

I consider Speaker Pete James a friend of mine. He works hard for Alexandria and has done a great job for the Empire. That is why I am so surprised that Parliament is moving just as slow as a snail, if not slower. Is it not Mr. James' responsibility to facilitate debate and voting? It takes far too long for a bill to be debated and voted on.
Might I suggest to Speaker James that he review the Parliamentary Procedure Act to know of his duties and the restrictions that are imposed on bills up for debate.
I hope that when Parliament reconvenes after the Holiday Break that it will pick up its pace and get the job done that Alexandrians across the Empire have elected them to do. |
Pete James has never before faulted from his duties, and this is not the first time he has done this job - I am sure he is well aware of the obligations. However, we do not always know what is going on on the 'other side'.
Debate on the Executive Ministries Act of 2006 began on Dec. 8th. A mini-debate took place on the changing the names of the Ministry of the Interior that lasted from the 12th until the 14th. The last post was made on the 14th by me and the next post comes from Mr. James urging amendments to be drafted over the break and to be submitted so that the bill could be voted on when Parliament reconvenes. That is a seven day period between my post and Pete’s post. I just think that 10 days is more than enough time to draft any amendments and propose them and addin another 6 days is too much.
Besides, according to the Parliamentary Procedure Act, bills are to be debated no less than three days and no more than a week.
I have no problems with extending debate, but I am under the impression that debate may only be extended when members vote defer at the time of voting. At that point, debate continues and voting is postponed.
The Provincial Reform Act has been dormant for quite sometime. Debate for that bill began on the 8th of November. A move for voting was made on the 15th of this month. I have just seconded the motion hoping that voting may begin.
Parliament is moving-if you can even call that moving-at an extremely slow pace. I am just hoping to get Parliament moving a bit more
I know that real life matters take precedence over one’s involvement with any sim. All that I am hoping to accomplish is Parliament to pick up the pace a bit.
Sorry the problem is Exams. but there all gone now, until at least Feb. =]
