| Article 1: Name. This bill may be officially cited as the Workers' Rights Act of 2006. Article 2: Pay. 1. No worker in Alexandria shall be paid a minimum wage of less than AE 4.50 per day. 2. Workers shall be classified as daily or salaried employees. Daily employees will be paid by the day while salaried workers may be under contract with the employer and collecting e.g. sales commissions. 3. No daily worker shall be required to work more than 5 days a week. If overtime is requested by the employer the hourly worker shall have the option of being paid overtime equal to 200 percent of their regular pay or using the time-off as compensation. The number of hours compensated will be computed at 150 percent of the employee's actual overtime hours. Article 3: Benefits. An employer must provide to an employee who works less than 38 hours a week the same fringe benefits as those provided to a full-time employee, calculated on a pro rata basis. Article 4: Government Role. 1. The Ministry of Interior shall be responsible for any and all worker-employer relations in Alexandria. 2. The Minister of Finance and Economics shall make recommendations to Parliament for an increase to the minimum wage. Article 5: Commencement This act shall come into force upon receiving Imperial Assent. |
