Title: Declaration of Treesian Unorthodox Church
Description: The Reformation

Thierry Mareu - February 27, 2006 02:40 AM (GMT)
I've been studying the Treesian Unorthodox's scripture and history for some time now, and I've decided it's just what micronationalism needs right now. It's the perfect antidote for the terrorism, distrust, and inactivity that has been building for the past several months.

With that in mind, I've decided to reconstitute the Treesian Unorthodox Church, basing this new iteration out of Rio Grande, Alexandria. Alexandria is the perfect base for a revival, as it has both an active citizenry and a history of religious freedom. Plus, the people are charming.

Long story short: the Treesian Unorthodox Church has been reformed, and you're welcome to join. The TUC has a history of religious plurality, so there's no reason to fear if you're not interested in us. We welcome contributions from all, believer or not. I'm also interested in as many old school TUCers' help. Join today, and see what we can do together.

The stuff below is more detailed information for those of you who are familiar with TUC history.

The Nitty-Gritty Details

Why not base the new Church in Treesia? It's in the name, after all.

Several revivals have been launched in Treesia, and they've all failed. I think this is because, even before it was absorbed by the Grand Commonwealth, Treesia was declining. Any church based in a declining country will itself decline. That's why I think the ideal bases for a new Treesian Unorthodox Church are Shireroth (where many former TUCers reside) or a new, dynamic micronation. Since little interest was shown in a Shirerithian revival a month ago, the second option seems the best.

Will you take the title Ardeaspag?

Not presently. It would seem silly to declare myself Ardeaspag when I'm the only member of the Church. After the Church has gained more members and prominence, we will vote for leadership. Until then, I will take the lowest clerical position in the Church, giola.

How long will the Church be set up in Rio Grande?

Once we have some more members (i.e. one more) I will request the Emperor grant us a forum, as he has the Catholic Church. Until then, we'll clutter up the Rio Grandian forum, though hopefully mainly on this thread.

Is this iteration of the Church doctrinally different from those that have come before?

We disapprove of the consolidation of religious titles, with the simplistic division between laymen and clergy. Instead, we will retain the older Treesian Unorthodox hierarchy, with giolas, marachs, and ardeaspags. More on the hierarchy will be clarified as converts are made.

Will the Treesian Unorthodox Church set up missions, as the older versions did?

Yes. However, before that's done we will first need to be sure that the missions will stay active and not become monuments to a brief spurt of activity. The focus now is on consolidating the Church in Alexandria.

Much has been made about Catholic clergy participating in Alexandrian politics. How does the TUC feel about politician-priests?

We're fine with them. In fact, we encourage our priests to participate in politics. This protects our interests, and makes us fun in an insidious sort of way.

More to come! Discuss amongst yourselves!

Treesian Unorthodox Church's Statement on the Recent Court Ruling

Recently, Lord Chief Justice John Ciervo ruled that his majesty the emperor cannot be referred to as "His Catholic Majesty" in official documents and addresses. The council of the Treesian Unorthodox Church (currently only me) applauds this ruling as consistent with the religious pluralism Alexandria, the TUC, and the Catholic Church all support.

The rest of the ruling, about the Speaker/Cardinal making two screennames, is weird.

Although I'm not involved anymore, I wish you the best of luck, and I'll let Eoin know (though he's not really in micronations at the moment). If you need any documents or I can help you in any other way, just let me know (my email is scott@shireroth.org)

Thanks for the kind words. I'll definitely be in touch. I've been looking on the old Cathedral forums (which have now combined with the Chained Library, right?) for relevant scriptures, but haven't been able to find a document on Church organization.
